Model Overview
The 2-seat, mid-engine R8 sports car is offered in Coupe and Spyder body styles, in V8, V10 and V10 Plus trims. The 4.2L V8 produces 430 hp and 317 ft-lb of torque, while the 5.2L V10 delivers 525 hp and 391 ft-lb. In the V10 Plus, that same engine cranks out 550 hp and 398 ft-lb. Audi states that the V10 Plus coupe is capable of hitting 60 mph in just 3.7, on its way to a 198-mph top speed. All engines are paired with a standard 6-speed manual transmission, while an all-new dual-clutch S-Tronic automated manual transmission is optional. The unit improves shift times by up to 0.3 seconds over the previous single-clutch R-Tronic. The new gearbox includes Audi launch control, which helps provide a perfect quick launch from a standing start, and all R8 models benefit from quattro all-wheel drive.R8 Spyder convertible models come with a power soft-top roof that can be closed or opened in just 19 seconds and can be operated at speeds up to 19 mph. The roof also features triple-layer insulation, a carbon-fiber cover and a heated rear window. All R8 coupe models include a glass window over the lighted engine bay, while Spyder models come with a vented aluminum cover. Spyder models also have different side air intakes.The interior of the R8 is a luxurious place. The arched, cockpit-style instrument panel of this two-seater allows quite a bit of interior space -- enough for taller drivers. The 8-way power adjustable seats come upholstered in soft Nappa leather or suede-like Alcantara, and the interior can be customized with various trims and inlays. Standard features include automatic climate control, a multi-function sport steering wheel, Audi concert radio with seven speakers, Bluetooth hands-free connectivity, and more. V10 models add Audi Navigation with real-time traffic information, as well as a 465-watt, 12-speaker Bang & Olufsen sound system.Safety isn't skimped either, even though the R8 is first and foremost a world-class exotic sports car.     Model Overview
    The heart of the i8 is BMW's unique hybrid drivetrain. An electric motor sends up to 129 hp through the front wheels via a 2-speed automatic transmission, while a 3-cylinder turbocharged engine sends up to 228 hp to the rear wheels, via a 6-speed automatic. The result is a combined 357 hp sent through all-four wheels, and while the strange combination of transmissions might sound like it would produce a jerky ride, the reality is that the i8 drives incredibly smoothly. It's fast too, sixty miles an hour is reached in a claimed 4.2 seconds. All that speed would be useless if the i8 didn't handle well. Luckily, the unconventional drivetrain has allowed BMW to distribute the weight of the car in a way that is beneficial to high performance driving. The gasoline engine is rear mounted, giving the i8 outstanding grip coming out of corners, while the all-wheel drive system provides abundant stability. The BMW i8 has five different driving modes, each one greatly altering how the car drives. Drivers can go for the sport setting, to get better throttle response and manual shifting, or they can sedately ride around in comfort mode, with softer suspension. They can even use the car in pure electric mode; plugging it in back at their house for short trips, without wasting any gas. In addition to being a great performance car, the i8 also makes a pretty spectacular grand tourer. Standard features include an 11-speaker Harmon Kardon sound system, a navigation system with a full color 8.8-inch flat-screen display, BMW apps for iOS and Android, SiriusXM and HD radio, 6-way power adjustable front seats with 3-stage heating, automatic 2-zone climate control, rain-sensing wipers, park distance control, dynamic cruise control, 20-inch wheels and trick scissor doors that make getting into and out of the car in a crowded parking lot a snap.With regards to safety, the i8 is well supplied. An active driving assistant includes an around view monitor, a frontal collision warning system and speed limit info, while a BMW assist eCall system provides drivers with an SOS button in the unfortunate event of an accident.

    :Vehicle Description
    The Alpina came only as an automatic using a five-speed BMW Steptronic transmission allied to a downgraded 4.6 L Alpina-tuned V8 motor from the Alpina E39 B10 V8 S (M62). In order to complete the car's transition from sportscar to boulevardier relaxed suspension tuning was used. The standard Z8's run-flat tires and 18 inch wheels were discarded in favor of conventional tires with softer sidewalls and 20 inch wheels. A new softer grade of Nappa leather replaced the Z8's less supple specification and special Alpina gauges were featured on the dash cluster. An Alpina steering wheel with three solid spokes replaced the original which could not be retrofitted with shift paddles for the automatic. Gear selection was displayed in an Alpina-specific display mounted in front of the wheel.
    Performance of the Alpina V8 differed from that of the standard car in that peak power was reduced to 375 hp while peak torque was raised to 383 lb·ft. This torque was available at significantly lower rpm than the original in order to enable more relaxed cruising. Curiously the electronically limited top speed was officially raised to 161 mph.
    Only 555 of these Alpinas were built 450 of which were exported to the U.S.
